StatusQ – App for private and targeted sharing

πŸš€πŸš€πŸš€Recently, we launched our new app “StatusQ”πŸš€πŸš€πŸš€

There are the following challenges when sharing photos via apps:

  • ❌ The photos are suddenly public on the Internet
  • ❌ There are only fixed groups and I can’t control exactly who sees what content
  • ❌ My photo gets lost in the endless global feed
  • ❌ My data is being sold
  • ❌ Photos are often compressed, reducing the image quality

These points emphasise the need for apps that focus on usability, data protection and quality.

What makes StatusQ different?

  • βœ… Private posting via contacts only
  • βœ… Determine the exact visibility via lists
  • βœ… Without an algorithm
  • βœ… GDPR-compliant, no data collection
  • βœ… Easy operation and clear user interface
  • βœ… Find specific posts using the search

With social media apps, photos are either completely public or assigned to strictly defined groups whose members see each other – which is not always wanted. It is also very tedious to define exactly who is allowed to see which content for each post.

Solution

For this reason, the app StatusQ was created. It makes it possible to share photos in the best resolution with the right target group. Using personal groups, the user can create lists such as “Family”, “Friends”, “Football fans” etc. in advance and categorises the desired recipients. The recipients of the photos cannot see which groups they belong to and who the other members are.

After setup, the user can create a post, assign it to the desired groups, and publish it within seconds. The personal feed shows all available posts of contacts as well as your own.

Main functions

  • βœ… Personal feed with posts from contacts
  • βœ… All contacts from the phone book
  • βœ… Automatic user names and avatars
  • βœ… Direct networking with phone book contacts
  • βœ… No public profiles or unwanted followers
  • βœ… Individual visibility groups: Users can specifically define who sees which content
  • βœ… High-resolution photo files: share and download in the best quality
  • βœ… Feed without algorithm: Posts are sorted and displayed in descending order by date

Regarding functions, we have taken inspiration from the most popular social media apps such as Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp and combined them in the app.

Registration

Registration via the mobile phone numberπŸ“±and the assignment of the contact book allows you to connect with friends, colleagues and acquaintances without the hassle of searching. A personal feed similar to Facebook and Instagram, which considers numerous visibilities and displays the posts chronologically, has been integrated.

The tedious task of maintaining usernames and profile pictures is a thing of the past, because the app simply uses the contact book as a data source. This means that the names and personalised avatars from the phone are automatically in the StatusQ contact list, avoiding unnecessary maintenance.

The feed

There is no personalised algorithm in the user’s feed. The latest post is at the top of the list. The posts themselves only appear if you are in an assigned group of the creator or the post is shared with all contacts. Who exactly can see which post is only known to the creator.

The single photos of a post can be shared, saved or liked. Other interactions such as commenting or chatting with other contacts were deliberately omitted in order to concentrate on the essentials.

The searchπŸ”Ž

A further feature is the advanced media search. Using general keywords such as “city”, “beach” or “river”, the app filters all available content and only shows posts with the content you are looking for. The entire process works via automatic AI keyword recognition of the images. During the upload of new media, the AI also recognises photos that contain unwanted content and blocks them.

User data protection

We guarantee security in terms of privacy and GDPR – with data processing exclusively in Europe. Our servers are located in Europe. Photos and media are all transmitted securely via SSL encryption.

The app transmits and saves the phone numbers from the contact book encrypted as a one-way hash to the server. This allows contacts to be assigned without the actual telephone numbers being known.

In order to present all the functions of the app, we have created the website http://www.status-q.app/en. We will keep you informed of further news here in the blog and on other MetaFlash social media platforms.

The StatusQ app is free and was developed for smartphones with the Android and iOS operating systems. We are currently funded exclusively by advertising. We realise that some users may find the adverts a little intrusive, which is why they only appear in the “Feed” tab.

We are actively working on developing additional features for the app to make the experience even better. If you’re interested in the app or already using StatusQ, send us your feedbackβ€”we’d love to hear from you!

Conclusion

StatusQ is a practical alternative to other social media apps for private photo sharing focussed on selected contacts. The option of retaining GPS data in photos also makes it particularly interesting for users who want to share the location of their images.
